Rochdale AFC’s Wonderwall began life back in 2017.
Every year, thanks to sponsorship from Crown Oil and Gordon Riggs Garden Centre it grows in size to be our biggest display ever.
There has been a tremendous response from the local community, who have shared the progress of the Wonderwall on social media. Many of the 16,000 plus commuters who use Sandy Lane daily, have grown to love this feature, which started life as a Greening Grey Britain project.
On the pavement stretching along Sandy Lane, there are now large roadside planters, made by Buckley Hall Prison and painted by H Bell & Sons.
Prison gardens instructor, Dean Larder, is delighted to have been involved in the initiative as part of a reintegration scheme. “We had four lads in total making the planters, and they’ve been pleased to get involved in this community project. They’ve developed their skills throughout the whole process and it has been great to see the finished product.”
